Iwakuni City Visitors Center “Honke Matsugane”
With English-speaking staff! A resting space where you can sample local specialty foods.
“Honke Matsugane” is a renovated merchant’s house that is representative of Iwakuni, built in around 1850. At “Honke Matsugane”, in addition to enjoying the original Japanese-style building itself, various Iwakuni-related exhibitions are held, allowing visitors to encounter the history of Iwakuni. In addition, a wide range of tourism pamphlets related to Iwakuni City attractions are available here, so while dropping by during your travels, you can also gather information to make the rest of your trip even more enjoyable. In autumn, an “Armor Experience” event is held, where you can try wearing Japanese armor.
Furthermore, you can sample bite-size portions of Iwakuni City’s specialty foods (fee required). Various delicacies are available, such as “Iwakuni Sushi”, which has been eaten in Iwakuni for generations, the specialty product Iwakuni lotus root, and Iwakuni local sake produced by five breweries. Taste-testing such products can also help you to choose souvenirs.
The Center also provides a baby feeding room and free WiFi, and can be used as a free resting space.
