Tenkoku Engraving (Stamp Carving Experience)

Near by Kintaikyo Bridge, carve your own original stamp, as a souvenir of your trip!

“Stamp carving” means carving letters into stone.
The Chinese monk Obaku Dokuryu (Tai Li), who brought a picture to Iwakuni that provided inspiration for the construction of Kintaikyo Bridge, was actually also the person who widely disseminated the craft of stamp-carving in Japan. In Iwakuni, which is a region connected to Obaku Dokuryu, stamp-carving experiences are available, where participants can turn their minds to history and create their own original stamps.
You can choose your preferred letters or words to carve.
The stamp-carving experience is held in sessions of up to five participants at one time. The sessions last for around 30 minutes, and the created stamps can be taken home as souvenirs after that.
The activity’s location is the Gokyo Bunko Museum, an art museum that features exhibits of calligraphy, paintings, and stamp-carving. Please enjoy this experience at your leisure in a quiet environment.
