【Introduction of neighboring cities and towns】Shimane Arts Center “Grand Toit”(Shimane prefecture)

The Shimane Arts Center is a complex of ‘Iwami Art Museum’ and ‘Iwami Arts Theater’. This center, a hub of arts and culture of the Iwami region, offers the opportunity for everyone to appreciate various types of excellent art and culture with art, music and theater in great chemistry.

“Grand Toit”, which means “Large Roof” in French, is an establishment that serves as both a museum of art and a theater. The large roof and walls are made of red tiles Sekishu-kawara, which inherit the Iwami region’s culture and traditions. The unique red tiles stand out in the cityscape. The appearance of the tiles changes with light – at some moments they appear gold, light blue when the sky is blue, and turn greenish at dusk.
