【Introduction of neighboring cities and towns】“Path of Sculpture” at Sumikawa Kiichi Memorial Park（Shimane prefecture）

The works of the late Sumikawa Kiichi are on exhibit in this park. A native of Yoshika town (former Muikaichi-cho) Sumikawa was the design supervisor of Tokyo Skytree. 

He pursued the beauty of curves of wood and stones, highlighting the concave and convex of those materials in his works. He tried to express not only the shape of roof of traditional Japanese temples/shrines but the natural beauty of stone walls of Japanese castles and softness of the curve. All the works exhibited in the park were created under the theme of “Curve”. In particular, the one that stands 9 meters tall titled “Oyorisanse” is absolutely jaw-dropping. Other works of Sumikawa such as “To The Sky” and “Kaze” are also on exhibit in the same premises.

In addition to Sumikawa’s works, there are works of winners of “UBE BIENNALE”, an International Outdoor Sculpture Competition held in Ube city, exhibited in the park.

There is no admission charge so you can get to see the works whenever you are free. Since the

park is located in the premises of Michinoeki (roadside station) Muikaichi Onsen (hot

spring), you can enjoy a warm public bath and delicious local cuisine of Yoshika town first and

look at the art works on exhibit later in the evening under a starry sky.
