Iwakuni Chokokan Museum
Learn about Iwakuni’s History in this Museum
This museum, constructed during wartime, is a design by Takeo Sato that demonstrates his excellent skills in architectural engineering and acoustics. With a modern design aesthetic, it has an unusually high ceiling and sense of spaciousness for the period when it was built.
Inside the museum, historical manuscripts and craftworks of the Edo period, as well as documents relating to Kintaikyo Bridge and components of the former Kintaikyo Bridge that was destroyed by a typhoon, are on display. Special Iwakuni-related exhibitions are held frequently, so you can deepen your understanding of the history of this city and Kintaikyo Bridge when you visit.
